The parent company of First Tennessee Bank, Middle Tennessee’s fifth-largest bank by deposits, will this fall unify the branding of its units under the First Horizon name.

First Horizon National Corp. in late 2017 completed the $2.2 billion acquisition of Charlotte-based Capital Bank Financial Corp., which grew the 155-year-old Memphis-headquartered lender to more than $40 billion in assets and about 350 offices in eight states across the South. At the time, executives split their bank branding approach, staying with First Tennessee in the Volunteer State and a few other states while keeping Capital Bank for the Carolinas and Florida. Dropping those brands — as well as those of the FTB Advisors investment management and FTN Financial bond trading units — for a unified First Horizon name (and an updated logo), they say, is an important next step in the integration of the organizations.
