Metro Council OKs bill for east side creative campus

The Metro Council approved on third reading Tuesday night a bill approving a lease agreement between the Metropolitan Government and Friends of Shelby Park for the Naval Building and grounds in Shelby Park.

The bill, passed unanimously on consent, will yield the $10 million Shelby Commons, a combination of park space and an arts and cultural center sitting on a site on the Cumberland River and billed as a creative campus of sorts. The property is recognized for the long-vacant U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center in East Nashville’s Shelby Park.
