Tennessee State University is projected to see a dramatic increase in student enrollment for the upcoming fall semester, following several years of declining enrollment numbers.

TSU is projecting its fall 2026 freshman and transfer class to include between 1,600 and 1,800 students, more than triple the amount from this time last year, which saw nearly 500 students. A TSU press release calls this increase an “unprecedented surge” caused by a comprehensive university-wide recruitment strategy under the leadership of TSU President Dwayne Tucker who was officially appointed to the role in 2025.
