Council gives soccer stadium final approvals

The Metro Council on Tuesday voted to advance several bills required to build a proposed soccer stadium at The Fairgrounds Nashville.

One of those bills, which involved the demolition of buildings at the Fairgrounds necessary prior to construction, needed 27 votes to pass, rather than a simple majority of the 40-member council, and it passed 31-8. The bill also established a ticket tax, revenues from which will be set aside for maintenance at the property.
