Court House

A judge temporarily blocked Tennessee from denying driver’s licenses to immigrants federally authorized to live and work in the U.S.

The ruling comes after the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security recently began excluding work permits as a valid document for driver’s license applications and renewals. Work permits are often the sole document showing evidence of non-U.S. citizens’ — like asylum seekers and those protected by Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) — legal immigration status.
