Scholz Inaugurates Europe's First IBM Quantum Data Center

For many, quantum computing sounds like science fiction or something only Neil deGrasse Tyson could explain. But the technology is advancing quickly, and Tennessee officials believe the state is uniquely positioned to drive outsized economic development. State officials are starting to write checks to make it happen.

Gov. Bill Lee’s 2026 budget allocated $43 million to the Tennessee Quantum Initiative. It’s an economic development strategy to recruit new companies, expand job creation around quantum technologies and develop academic research and public-private partnerships across the state, including in Middle Tennessee.
