The merger of Sony and Bertelsmann (BMG), two of the world’s largest music companies, which is now expected to get approval of both U.S. and European regulators, will result in the loss of about 2,000 jobs, or roughly a quarter of the combined global workforce, according to a report by the Financial Times.

BMG’s holdings in Nashville include RCA Label Group-Nashville (Brooks and Dunn, Kenny Chesney, George Jones, Martina McBride) and Provident Music Group (Jars of Clay, Micheal W. Smith). Sony holdings include the Sony Music Nashville label (Buddy Jewell, Gretchen Wilson).
