HCA buying Texas hospitals from CHS, Tenet

Amid a flurry of hospital acquisition and divestiture news Monday afternoon, HCA Holdings executives announced they have agreed to buy six hospitals in Texas from rivals Tenet Healthcare and Community Health Systems.

Nashville-based HCA will pay Tenet $725 million for the 423-bed Houston Northwest Medical Center, the 181-bed Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, the 444-bed Park Plaza Hospital and the 65-bed long-term acute care Plaza Specialty Hospital. The companies’ deal, which is expected to close during the third quarter, also includes physician practices and other assets.
