A recent decision from the Tennessee Supreme Court declined to allow private equity investments in law firms — meaning non-lawyers cannot buy stakes in the legal services entities.

The per curiam decision, released Oct. 2, notes the court will not intervene in the state’s prohibiting of non-lawyer ownership of law firms. However, the ruling allows the court to revisit the topic and reverse the decision in the future.
