A Vanderbilt University employee is suing the school for alleged discrimination after the university denied insurance coverage for gender-affirming procedures.

Hannah Housden, a transgender woman and faculty member in Vanderbilt’s college of arts and sciences, filed the lawsuit in federal court Sept. 1. In 2024, her physician submitted an insurance claim to use Housden’s employee health plan provided by Vanderbilt to cover the cost of surgical facial feminization procedures.
