Dismissal upheld in Father Ryan death suit

A panel of U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals judges this week affirmed the local District Court’s previous decision to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the mother of a Father Ryan High School student who killed himself in 2014.

Plaintiff Patricia Tumminello argued that her son, who was a freshman at the Nashville Catholic high school during the 2013-14 school year, had been repeatedly bullied, specifically with language related to his perceived sexual identity. She alleged that her son’s suicide was caused by the harassment and by Father Ryan’s failure to enforce the school’s anti-bullying policy.
