Permitting the boom

The eye test is evidence enough that Nashville is in the midst of a construction boom. The iron skeletons of rising buildings dot the cityscape, and cranes poised to construct more are erected seemingly every day.

The collective permit value in Nashville reached a record of approximately $3.7 billion in the past fiscal year and required the issuance of 12,275 permits, according to data gathered by the Metro Department of Codes and Building Safety. Those figures mark an all-time high, with the dollar figure nearly 50 percent greater than the record mark of the year before.
