Special session will attempt to oust Durham

Rep. Jeremy Durham announcing the suspension of his campaign in July

In a surprise move, first reported by the Associated Press, House Speaker Beth Harwell announced Wednesday she would make a push to expel disgraced Republican Rep. Jeremy Durham during next week's extraordinary session of the Legislature.

Gov. Bill Haslam called the session on Friday to address botched DUI legislation that could prevent the state from getting $60 million in federal highway funds. However, he said at the time that it wasn't the role of the administration to include a vote on Durham's ouster in his proclamation.
