Competing polls show Blackburn, Bredesen with lead

Two new public polls disagree on which U.S. Senate candidate holds the edge, but neither survey gives Republican Marsha Blackburn or Democrat Phil Bredesen much room to breathe.

SSRS, in a poll conducted on behalf of CNN, found likely Tennessee voters favor Bredesen over Blackburn, 50 percent to 45, with a 4.3-percent margin of error. In a Triton Polling survey commissioned by conservative website the Tennessee Star, Blackburn leads 48.3 percent to 45, with a 3-percent margin of error.
