Super Bowl pressures timelines on East Bank

Pressure from Super Bowl LXIV is already reshaping discussions about the East Bank. A unanimous vote Tuesday morning by the East Bank Development Authority, a government committee overseeing the area’s massive redevelopment, approved $75 million to extend the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge to the new Nissan Stadium to ensure “Super Bowl readiness.” The body’s members are also trying to hasten work by the Fallon Company, a Boston-based real estate developer, which clarified that its central hotel wouldn’t be ready until months after the game.

Infrastructure, the new $2.1 billion Titans stadium, road work and the Oracle campus slowly taking form have combined to turn the East Bank into a massive construction zone along the Cumberland River. Between its stadium kick-in and related infrastructure work, the city has pledged more than $1 billion toward the site overhaul. The bridge extension adds $75 million, which will draw from $300 routed to the EBDA from downtown’s Convention Center Authority, to that total. The Metro Sports Authority approved the bridge extension last week.
