Vandy’s Augenstein forgoes fifth year to turn pro

Just six months after announcing he would return to Vanderbilt for a fifth season, Commodore golfer John Augenstein announced his decision to leave school and turn pro.

Of course, his showing at the 84^th Annual PGA Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, last week probably factored heavily into his decision. Finishing with a plus-3 score and tied for 55^th place, Augenstein proved he could compete with the tour’s best, tying Phil Mickelson in the event and finishing three spots ahead of Vanderbilt alum Brandt Snedeker.
