Vandy’s Augenstein forgoes fifth year to turn pro

Just six months after announcing he would return to Vanderbilt for a fifth season, Commodore golfer John Augenstein announced his decision to leave school and turn pro.

Of course, his showing at the 84th Annual PGA Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, last week probably factored heavily into his decision. Finishing with a plus-3 score and tied for 55th place, Augenstein proved he could compete with the tour’s best, tying Phil Mickelson in the event and finishing three spots ahead of Vanderbilt alum Brandt Snedeker.
