Lee appoints interim human services commissioner

Gov. Bill Lee has appointed Tony Mathews as interim commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Mathews has since 2017 served as deputy commissioner of the department that oversees supplemental nutrition funds and other assistance programs. Prior to joining the department, he worked in pharmacy roles at Aetna and Cigna and worked for the state at the Department of Environment and Conservation and with TennCare.
