The Goodpasture boys basketball (31-1) team finally shook their always-a-bridesmaid-never-a-bride status on Saturday, rallying in the fourth quarter to top the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions 60-50 and claim the school’s first-ever Division II-A state basketball title.

The Cougars had finished as runner-up three times previously in 13 state tournament appearances. Saturday's victory was also Goodpasture’s second win over CPA after beating the Lions 70-56 in the DII-A Middle Region Championship on Feb. 22. Goodpasture held CPA, which averages 80.8 points per game, to its two lowest scoring totals of the season.
