Retailers fight over proposed end to tax loophole

A Monday hearing over the Tennessee Department of Revenue's proposed rule change to collect sales tax from all online retailers had traditional brick-and-mortar retailers battling online-only vendors.

Currently the state does not require online retailers without a physical presence in the state to collect sales tax, but the proposed change would make everyone, online or retail, collect the same state and local sales taxes, starting in 2017. As the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports:
