A majority of the seats on Nashville’s Metro Council are held by women — a feat the city reached in 2023. Women also hold all five of the city’s at-large council seats. However, at the state level, women only make up 23 of the Tennessee General Assembly’s 132 lawmakers.

The Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus wants to change that. The organization works across the state to advocate for more women in elected office and push for wide-ranging pieces of legislation regarding women’s rights, health care, education and more.
