Super Tuesday: Gilmore, Smith Win Local Primaries

Erica Gilmore

Due to a Tuesday afternoon chancellor's decision that a handful of Davidson County precincts were to remain open after hours following the flux of voters displaced from their normal sites by the tornado, Nashville's election results were unavailable until after 11 p.m.

In the contested local Democratic Party primaries, former At-Large Councilmember Erica Gilmore defeated incumbent trustee Parker Toler in a landslide, winning 77 percent of the vote. Toler, himself a former councilmember, was elected by the council last year to fill the vacancy in the position left by the death of longtime Trustee Charlie Cardwell, who had served in the role since 1993.
