Metro lawyers don’t want Supreme Court election hearing

Metro lawyers are asking the Tennessee Supreme Court not to hear an expedited request to determine whether the mayoral election should be held in May or August.

Though a majority of Metro Council members on Tuesday asked Metro Law Director Jon Cooper to support a petitioner’s request that the high court reach down and hear the case — passing over the Court of Appeals — on Wednesday Cooper’s department filed a response opposing the move.
