Newgarden falls just short in quest for consecutive IndyCar titles

Josef Newgarden entered the IndyCar Series season finale in St. Petersburg with a slim chance of winning his second straight IndyCar championship. But he still had a shot, nonetheless.

The Hendersonville native and current Nashville resident led the final 21 laps of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to win the 2020 IndyCar season finale. However, 40-year-old IndyCar points leader Scott Dixon took home a third-place finish and held off Newgarden to narrowly win the IndyCar title for the sixth time.
