Middle Tennessee State University officials promised a national search to replace men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis and said they would hire a firm to help identify the right person.

The school formally acknowledged Davis’ decision to leave after 16 seasons during which he became the program’s winningest coach and dramatically raised the profile of Blue Raiders’ basketball.
