Harwell fends off speaker challenge

House Speaker Beth Harwell fended off a challenge for her leadership position Thursday, defeating Rep. Jimmy Matlock 40-30 in the House Republican Caucus vote.

“The past year has been a difficult one on this body, but I commend you for remaining focused on what is important, and that is moving Tennessee forward,” she said, according to Tom Humphrey.
