Sale of trucking company to yield layoffs

Volunteer Express, one of Nashville’s more established trucking companies, will lay off 81 employees as it prepares to be sold.

Waco, Texas-based Central Freight Lines last week announced it has agreed to acquire for an undisclosed sum the employee-owned company that operates from 1116 Polk Ave. in South Nashville.
