New business filings in Tennessee during the first quarter of 2026 have broken a state record.

With 24,852 new entities filing in the state, the figure is the highest for a first quarter since Tennessee began tracking the data 33 years ago — according to the Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators Report released by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett in partnership with the University of Tennessee Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research. This jump represents a 20.6 percent year-over-year increase.
