Monroe Carell construction

Construction on the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital is in the final phases, as crews are finishing the final two floors, the hospital announced Friday.

The hospital, located at 2200 Children’s Way, has secured a Metro permit worth $50.4 million. The work will be handled by Layton Construction. The four-floor expansion began in 2016 and is expected to last 16 more months, according to a press release. The 14th floor, slated to open in late 2024, will accommodate Vanderbilt University Hospital adult patients while the hospital constructs a new tower. The 12th floor is set to open in early 2025 and will house neonatal intensive care, acute care and a clinical research unit.
