Vanguard to buy eight Detroit hospitals

Vanguard Health Systems has a letter of intent to purchase Detroit Medical Center, an eight-hospital nonprofit academic medical system serving southeastern Michigan.

The deal is priced at $417 million, with Vanguard pledging to make $850 million in capital improvements to the system over the next five years.
