Opry Mills owner and Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. announced Monday plans to pay $3.6 billion for retail mall rival Taubman Centers Inc., which owns The Mall at Green Hills.

The deal is expected to close by mid-year, according to a release.Â
