The ascendant Vanderbilt women’s basketball team got a nice shot in the arm Monday when one of the nation’s top college prospects committed to the Commodores.

Guard Mikayla Blakes, a five-star recruit ranked No. 10 overall in the class of 2024 by ESPN, chose Vanderbilt over a final seven schools that included heavyweights like Tennessee, Stanford, UCLA, Indiana, Wisconsin and Rutgers.
