No. 12-seed Vanderbilt was unable to overcome a sluggish start in its opening-round SEC Tournament matchup against 13-seed Texas on Wednesday, falling 79-72 to the Longhorns at Bridgestone Arena.

The five-day, 16-team affair is set to be even more competitive than usual as 14 of the 16 participants are in the NCAA Tournament at-large discussion. With several of the higher-seeded teams squarely on the bubble, Vanderbilt's loss to Texas looms large.
