The chances of Nashville’s Mookie Betts earning a second most valuable player award took a significant blow Sunday when he suffered a broken left hand after getting hit by a pitch.

The Los Angeles Dodgers starting shortstop was batting against Kansas City when he was plunked by Royals reliever Dan Altavilla with a 98-mile per hour throw.
