The latest setback to Josef Newgarden’s 2025 IndyCar season came in the form of a crash that cost him a big lead and brought an end to his race at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill., on Sunday.

But it could have turned out far worse.
