As expected, USL team takes on NFC name, logo

When the city's new United Soccer League franchise begins play in 2018, it will do so under the name and behind the logo of the city's existing National Premier Soccer League team.

At an at-times raucous press conference inside Bridgestone Arena Friday — complete with spirited chanting and drumming from the Nashville FC ultras group The Roadies — the owners of the new franchise announced an agreement with Nashville FC to purchase the name and marks of the existing team. The supporter-owned club voted overwhelmingly — to the tune of 95 percent — to turn over the trademarks. In exchange, the stockholders will form a supporters trust for the new team that will receive a 1 percent share of the USL team and a seat on its board.
