Coordinate or stagnate

The Affordable Care Act enacted in 2010 has ushered in a major transformation in the American health care system. Not only is the ACA focused on expanding access to affordable and quality care, but also on reducing the overall costs of health care. Health care spending has been on an unsustainable path. Medicare spending had been doubling every 10 years, but recent figures suggest a slowing in cost growth. Still, more than a third of health care spending has been deemed unnecessary. Moving from a fragmented fee-for-service system that rewards volume to one based on value has not been easy, but is certainly necessary.
