Local group funding Roy Moore mailers

Roy Moore

With Alabama Senate hopeful Roy Moore under fire over allegations that he sexually assaulted teenagers when he was an assistant prosecutor in his 30s, some Middle Tennessee conservatives are not shying away from the Tuesday special election to fill current Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ seat.

A political action committee calling itself “Drain the DC Swamp” last week spent $10,000 on direct mail campaigns in support of Moore and opposing his opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, a former federal prosecutor, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission. The group is registered at the Nashville office of attorney Judson Phillips, a conservative activist and the founder of the group Tea Party Nation.
