Downtown craft brewer Big River to become Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery

Chattanooga-based CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries, Inc., will convert Lower Broadway’s Big River Grille & Brewing Works — known for its craft beers — into a Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, adding a rooftop bar in the process.

In a release, CraftWorks officials did not disclose a cost for the work.

The conversion to Rock Bottom Brewery, which will result in an increase of restaurant space by 50 percent, is slated to be complete in early April. RBB will add about 45 employees to a worker roster currently at 75. “We opened Big River in 1995 and we continue our commitment to Downtown Nashville with this investment and rebrand to Rock Bottom,” Allen Corey, CraftWorks president and CEO, said in the release. “Reinvesting in this location to enhance our guests’ experience makes perfect sense. There are successful Rock Bottoms in cities like Chicago, San Diego, Denver and Seattle, and now Nashville will have its own Rock Bottom.”The rooftop bar and restaurant will accommodate 195 guests and offer views of Broadway, Second Avenue, the Cumberland River and LP Field. The space will have lounge seating and a fire pit, with group event space available.

In addition to updated decor, the restaurant will feature a revised menu that will add items with a Southwest influence and an expanded selection of the company’s craft beers.

CraftWorks owns 30 breweries under the name Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery. The Nashville Rock Bottom will represent the 17th state in which the entity operates.
