Hildreth selected for FDA vaccine committee

Meharry Medical College President James Hildreth has been appointed to a Food and Drug Administration committee preparing to play a central role in evaluating the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccine candidates.

Hildreth said Friday he has been selected to join the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee at the FDA. The 20-person panel of “nerdy virologists” is set to have its first meeting about the coronavirus response next Thursday and will discuss the development, authorization and licensure of vaccines. No single vaccine candidate is scheduled to be considered during the meeting.
