Ex-St. Thomas CEO a top candidate for dean of new Fla. med school

Former St. Thomas Hospital CEO Deborah German has made the short list of five finalists to serve as the dean of University of Central Florida’s new medical school.Prior to her stint at St. Thomas, German was in the academic world, serving as senior associate dean of Medical Education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1999 to 2002. German’s tenure as the President and CEO of St. Thomas, from 2002 to 2004, was marked by financial and operational difficulties. Most recently she has worked as scholar-in-residence at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington.Last year, German was a finalist for a job as chancellor of the U.T. Health Science Center in Memphis.
