John Triggs, formerly a shareholder in New York City-based Greenberg Traurig, joined Waddey Patterson's intellectual-property practice, Sept. 24.Triggs, previously one of 1,700 lawyers with the nation's 7th-largest law firm, headquartered on Park Avenue, is now the twelfth attorney with Waddey at Roundabout Plaza.He told NashvillePost.com yesterday that he and his wife — Margot Ann Wagner, a senior attorney with Cravath Swaine & Moore — are looking forward to the move, even while grappling with relocation and selling a home and their Woodchuck Hollow crop farm in New York state.Triggs said the couple has been impressed with both Nashville's cosmopolitan resources and its quality of life. In a release announcing Triggs' appointment, Jack Waddey said the firm has long known and respected Triggs. Waddey Legal Administrator Jim Roberts added that the firm's attorneys have previously worked with Triggs, and during negotiations "it was just a click."An enthusiastic Triggs acknowledged yesterday that Waddey & Patterson's role in managing the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association helped reinforce his view of the opportunity to move to Music City.In April, Triggs was one of 14 Greenberg Traurig attorneys included in the inaugural edition of Legal 500 US - Volume II: Intellectual Property, Media, Technology and Telecoms, an international lawyer-referral guide.During his 35-year legal career, Triggs has focused primarily on patent litigation and counseling, copyright and trademark litigation, trade secrets, and trials and appeals. Prior to joining Greenberg, Triggs was a partner in the New York City law firm of Jacobson & Triggs, among other posts.Triggs, 61, earned his J.D. in 1971 at Syracuse University at Syracuse, his hometown. He earned his bachelor's at Le Moyne College, Syracuse, in 1968.Wagner earned her J.D. at New York University in 1988, and her bachelor's at Hofstra University, at Hempstead, N.Y., in 1984. During her 13 years at Cravath, she has worked mainly on commercial-banking matters. The couple has a 15-year-old daughter.
