McFadden's under fire for copyright infringement

In a lawsuit that hits close to home, Broadcast Music Inc. has joined with a number of song copyright owners to sue a downtown venue for playing music without proper licensing in place or copyright owner authorization given.

BMI, MJ Publishing Trust d/b/a MiJac Music, Cyanide Publishing and others, filed suit Oct.6 in U.S. District Court in Nashville alleging copyright infringement against McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon, and its managing member, John L. Sullivan. McFadden’s is located at 134 Second Ave. N. and is part of a New York City-based chain known for employing in-house DJs while offering a lively bar scene and restaurant designed for parties, corporate gatherings, bachelorette parties and the like.
