Shares of SmileDirect are set for another big down day after the company reported disappointing fourth-quarter results and executives said they’re dialing back their growth expectations in the quest for profitability.

Downtown-based SmileDirect posted a net loss of $97.3 million on revenues of $197 million during the last three months of 2019. Both those numbers came up short of what analysts had expected, although the company's leaders said some manufacturing hiccups meant they couldn't meet all the demand for their dental aligners during the quarter. Operating losses topped $92 million during the quarter — up from $22.8 million on a smaller revenue base in late 2018 — as the company ramped up marketing expenses to a massive $141 million and administrative spending more than doubled year over year to $94.5 million.
