Virtual nursing is quickly taking hold at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The hospital began implementing Care.ai’s virtual nursing software for cardiac and transplant patients in June, complete with microphones and cameras installed in single patient rooms and on portable carts for double rooms. Dr. Neal Patel, chief informatics officer for VUMC’s health information technology arm HealthIT, told the Post the organization will expand the technology to the rest of the hospital over the next six to 12 months.
