HCA Healthcare

HCA Healthcare more than doubled its profits in the first quarter of 2021, mostly attributable to sicker patients and a higher mix of commercial insurance reimbursements.

CEO Sam Hazen on Thursday announced the company had a net income of more than $1.4 billion from January to March this year, which was up 144 percent compared to 2020, while revenue grew only 8.7 percent. During that time, inpatient revenues grew almost 12 percent year-over-year and patients' average length of stay grew 6 percent due to higher acuity patients.
