Nashville-based Southern Land Co. has hired Karla Cavazos as vice president of commercial design and construction.
Cavazos coordinates in-house and architecture and engineering teams with Southern Land’s commercial construction division to reduce costs and accelerate delivery. Her duties include managing A&E contracts, coordinating construction process with design and collaborating with Southern Land’s development teams from concept to completion.
Cavazos is a 25-year veteran of architectural operations management. Most recently she served as executive vice president of operations with Dallas-based Humphreys & Partners Architects, as which she worked 23 years. At that firm, she oversaw architectural operations for seven national offices and two international offices focusing on contract documents and construction administration services. Humphreys & Partners Architects primarily designs multifamily, mixed-use and hospitality/resort mid-rises and high-rises.
Cavazos holds AIA, CSI, SCT and LEED Green Associate designations. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture.
“Karla is an exceptional addition to our growing construction and design teams as we expand our commercial development practice nationally,” Tim Downey, Southern Land chief executive officer, said in the release. “Karla is rarity, being both an accomplished architect and a proven operational leader. She can align our passion for building beautiful properties with the operational challenges of commercial construction.”
The hiring comes as Southern Land earlier this month announced it has added David Bracht as president of homebuilding and acquisitions (read here).
Southern Land, which employs approximately 300 individuals, has undertaken 22 of what it bills as large-scale projects.
