Claire K. Thurman (née Claire Harvey Hulsey), formerly a bookkeeper at the Nashville law firm of Harwell Howard Hyne Gabbert & Manner, has been indicted by a Davidson County Grand Jury for embezzling $1,722,064.37.

According to the indictment, Thurman issued herself checks from February of 2006 until June of this year in amounts ranging from about $15,000 to more than $60,000.

In August, NashvillePost.com reported that affidavits were filed by the law firm against Thurman for just over $100,000. At the time, H3GM's managing partner Mark Manner said the amount of money they allege had been taken would be "significantly higher."

Reached today, Manner acknowledged that "it was a lot of money in an absolute sense, but was insignificant to our revenues." He then stressed that the funds taken were not client funds and only from the firm's account.

In the 40-count indictment, it is alleged that Thurman used the money partially to purchase household appliances and computer equipment.
