06-29-2009 1:09 PM

John Spragens, communications director for Congressman Jim Cooper (D-Nashville), is leaving his post and heading back to school.

Spragens, who has been on Cooper's staff since 2006 and has served as his communications director since 2007, will depart on July 17 and soon after will begin to matriculate at Vanderbilt University Law School.

Prior to his work in Cooper's office, the graduate of Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet School and Kenyon College served on the staff of the Nashville Scene, primarily covering the political beat.

Asked about his departure, Spragens told NashvillePost.com, “It’s been a privilege to work for Jim for the past three years. He is so widely respected by his colleagues and by experts and leaders around the country. Nashville is well-represented in Congress, and now I will be, too.”
