Montgomery Bell Academy has purchased a home near its campus, adding to holdings and taking another step toward future expansion. The private all-boys school paid $750,000 for the property at 3905 Brighton Road, south of campus and across the street from its baseball field. The property was recently appraised at $355,000.

The school bought the site from the Nell Apple Highers Revocable Trust. According to MBA Headmaster Brad Gioia, the purchase was part of a plan the school has been pursuing since 1996 of purchasing the houses on Brighton.

"We've been open for a long time about expanding the campus to Brighton," Gioia told NashvillePost.com.

MBA currently owns 14 lots along Brighton as well as some on adjoining Wilson Boulevard. The recent transaction was the school's first  on Brighton since November of 2006. Currently, one of the few pieces of land on the block not owned by the school is in the hands of SunTrust Bank, which acquired the site in late 2002.
