Santa Fe Holding Co., the roadhouse concept run by Meres Bulles owner Danny York, has signed a master franchise agreement with a group of Florida entrepreneurs.

York has teamed up with Premiere Restaurant Development, a joint venture of The Maali Group and Superior Hospitality Management, to enter the Sunshine State. Maali and Superior run restaurants in Florida and the Bahamas under a number of flags, including Bennigan's, Outback Steakhouse and TGI Friday's.

Chad Maali, Maali's director of development, called Santa Fe "one of most promising restaurant concepts to come along in quite some time." Santa Fe runs about 30 restaurants and plans to add between eight and 10 this year. Its deal with Premiere is the first franchise arrangement, although a predecessor company licensed a number of locations in the late 1990s.

Santa Fe (Ticker: SFHD) booked 2008 sales of $53.3 million, up more than 60 percent from the year before. Operating profits almost doubled to about $9 million.
